2011年のアメリカの調査によると、性別と性的性向によってオーガズムを経験する頻度が大きく異なることが分かった。特に女性では、ストレートの女性（61.6%）と比べて同性愛者（74.7%）の方がオーガズムの頻度が多いことが分かった。
